Mega New Year's Resolutions

I'm not going to focus on all the things I have failed to do this past year. That always leads me down the path of depression. I wallow in my sense of failure instead of moving forward. Not gonna happen this time.
.
2012 is going to my year. A year of action! A year of self-improvement! A year of accomplishment!
.
Hopefully.
.
So, here are my goals:
.
1) Read three books every week. A nonfiction book, a recent publication, and a "classic." Write journal responses after each reading on blog.
.
2) Read and analyze 1 modern and 1 classic poem every day. Write analysis on blog.
.
4) Write 1,000 words of prose every day.
.
3) Write 1 poem, and edit 1 poem every day. Submit 7 best poems to literary magazines every month.
.
4) Watch 1 documentary or 1 hour of news every day. Write a response.
.
5) Drink only water, black coffee and unsweetened tea. If going to drink alcohol with friends, this can be only once per week at most.
.
6) Do an hour of muscle toning exercises each day. 20 minutes each morning, afternoon, and night.
.
7) Walk to and from campus every day.
.
8) Eat lunch at home 5 days per week, dinner 4 days per week. One unhealthy meal, two unhealthy snacks allowed per week.
.
Erm, I think that's it. Hopefully I'll be a more well-informed, healthy person at the end of this year.

poetry thoughts

New idea! Since I won't be posting my own poetry for a while, and I'm still trying to learn about the community of poets and journals, acquainting myself with lesser known voices out there-- the voices of my peers-- I want to post some of my favorite poems from journals I follow on Duotrope, and my responses to them.

I may have to make a new category to post these responses in, but I'm excited to have something of a scrapbook of poetry and journals that make an impact on me, and also to have the opportunity to introduce these voices to any readers who may not have heard them otherwise... that is, if I ever blog well and consistently enough to garner some readers ;)

Hopefully this idea will stimulate my intellect and creativity. I'll be posting more soon.

Hello Again

Finished Nano a little less than a week ago, successfully. More than successfully, actually-- I wrote over 100,000 words! Now that I've got that nice, fat draft tucked away in the proverbial dresser drawer and I've taken a brief breather from my creative writing, I want to attack my poetry and blogging with renewed vigor.
.
I'm going to avoid mistakes I've made in the past, and I'm not going to post my poetry before I publish it. That leads to difficulties when I'm going through the submissions process. However, once my poetry is published, I'll post links to it so you all can see what that's all about.
.
In the meantime, this blog is going to function more as a journal. Impressions, memories-- seeds that may later sprout into fiction.
.
That's all. I'll be back soon with writings!
